What I learnt at my latest wedding fair (spoiler: couples are adorable)
I went into this wedding fair thinking I’d be “promoting my business.”
What actually happened?
I spent the day chatting, laughing, hearing love stories, and quietly obsessing over how wholesome engaged couples are.
Here’s what I learnt…
1. Couples either totally get celebrants… or have no idea we exist
There is no in-between 😂
Some couples walked straight up like:
“We definitely want a celebrant, we hate the idea of a standard ceremony.”
Others:
“Wait… what actually is a celebrant?”
And honestly? I love both.
Because the second group is where the magic happens.
When you explain that they can:
get married anywhere
say what they want
include their story, their people, their vibe
…you can literally see the moment it clicks.
It’s like:
💡 oh… we can actually have the ceremony we want?!
Yes. Yes you can.
2. Speaking to engaged couples is genuinely heart-warming
This was my biggest takeaway.
You’re not just “selling a service.”
You’re being invited (even briefly) into someone’s love story.
People told me:
how they met
how they got engaged
what kind of wedding they’re dreaming of
And there’s something about that early-stage excitement that is just… lovely.
No stress yet. No drama. Just:
✨ we’re getting married and we’re buzzing about it
It reminded me exactly why I started this — it’s not just about ceremonies, it’s about people.
3. Your stand neighbours matter… a lot
Strategic positioning = everything.
Next time? I am 100% securing a spot next to:
the magician 🪄
the ice cream cart 🍦
Why?
Because:
free entertainment = people hanging around
people hanging around = conversations
conversations = connections
Also… free ice cream. Say no more.
4. People are drawn to personality, not perfection
The couples who stopped weren’t looking for the “most formal” or “most traditional” option.
They were drawn to:
a vibe
a feeling
someone they could actually imagine on their wedding day
Final thought (aka my little pinky promise moment)
If you’re planning your wedding and you’re not quite sure what you want yet…
That’s completely normal.
But if you’re thinking:
“We want something that feels like us”
Then a celebrant-led ceremony might just be your thing 💖
If you met me at the fair (hi!!), or you’re just curious about what your ceremony could look like…
Let’s have a chat. No pressure. No awkward vibes. Just ideas ✨
