Should Your Dog Be Part of Your Wedding Ceremony? (Spoiler: Probably Yes 🐾)

Let’s be honest… they’re part of the family

If you’re anything like most of my couples, your dog isn’t just a dog.

They’re:

  • your third wheel

  • your emotional support

  • the reason you go on “romantic walks” (that are actually just dog walks)

So the idea of them not being part of your wedding?
Feels a bit… wrong.

So, should your dog be in your ceremony?

Short answer:
👉 If it feels right for you — absolutely yes.

Long answer:
👉 Let’s make sure it’s a good idea, not just a cute one.

Because as adorable as it sounds… dogs can also be chaotic little icons 🐕💅

The cutest ways to include your dog 🐾

Here’s how couples are doing it (and honestly, it never gets old):

  • Ring bearer (iconic… if they don’t leg it)

  • Walking down the aisle with you

  • “Best Dog” / “Dog of Honour”

  • Mentioning them in your love story (always a crowd favourite)

  • Dog cameo for photos only (great if they’re a bit… unpredictable)

  • Paw print instead of a guestbook signature

Bonus points if they’re wearing a little floral collar or bow tie. I will cry.

Things to think about (aka keeping it stress-free)

Before you commit to your dog having their main character moment, ask yourself:

👉 Are they comfortable around people?
Big crowds, noise, and attention can be a lot.

👉 Will they actually listen?
Be honest 😂

👉 Who’s in charge of them on the day?
Assign a dog wrangler (trusted friend = lifesaver)

👉 Is your venue dog-friendly?
(Important. And surprisingly easy to forget.)

👉 What’s the backup plan?
If they decide to zoom off mid-vows… we roll with it.

A little reality check (from a celebrant who loves dogs)

Including your dog can be:
💖 emotional
😂 hilarious
✨ completely unforgettable

But it should never feel stressful or forced.

Some of the best ceremonies I’ve seen?
The dog made a quick appearance, stole the show, and then went off for snacks and a nap.

Perfect.

My Pinky Promise take 💖

There are no rules here.

If your dog is a huge part of your life — include them.
If they’d hate every second — don’t.

Your wedding should feel like you, not like something you think you should do.

(That said… I will always be emotionally biased towards dogs 🐾)

Let’s plan your kind of ceremony 🤞

Whether your dog is:

  • centre stage

  • making a cameo

  • or just featuring in your story

I’ll help you build a ceremony that feels natural, relaxed, and totally you.
